In the spirit of the Jubilee of Ecology, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi (SFA), Cheras, came alive with colours, laughter, and the beauty of creation during its Jubilee Eco event on 25th Oct, a day that brought together parishioners, families, and the wider community to celebrate God’s gift of nature.
Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology, the event reminded everyone of our call to care for our common home through simple, loving, and sustainable actions.
The Eco Market was abuzz with stalls offering eco-friendly products, handmade crafts, organic food, and creative upcycled items each one echoing the fair’s heartfelt message of stewardship and sustainability.
The Food & Beverages section was a crowd favourite, featuring local delights like Yam Cake, Penyaram, Kelupis Pulut, Ayam Rendang, Rojak, and Cendol plus an on-the-spot Thosai-making station served with fragrant Masala Tea and Coffee! The shared meals fostered friendship, warmth, and unity across the community.
Visitors also enjoyed a fascinating Wildlife Exhibition, highlighting Malaysia’s incredible biodiversity and the importance of protecting endangered species that share our home.
To walk the talk, parishioners took part in the collection of e-waste, expired medicine, and old religious items for proper recycling and disposal a small yet meaningful act towards reducing waste.
The Eco Talk and Solar Talk sessions inspired families to embrace greener living from renewable energy to daily sustainable practices.
A touching highlight of the day was the Tree Planting Ceremony led by Rev. Fr. Andrew Manickam, OFM Cap, symbolising the parish’s commitment to nurture creation for generations to come.
Creativity bloomed too! Families joined in canvas bag drawing and stone painting, while children under 12 played eco-themed games that taught them the joy of caring for nature through fun and play.
Organised by the Creation Justice Ministry of St. Francis of Assisi, the fair reflected the parish’s living witness to Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to “care for our common home” with gratitude, love, and hope.
Together, we are planting the seeds of change, one green step at a time.
