Annual 33 BEC Gathering
Theme: "Everyone Can Be Great Because Everyone Can Serve"
More than 250 members of our BEC family gathered for an evening of faith, fellowship and unity. We were honoured by the presence of Fr Paul Cheong, Parish Priest, Danny Nesan, PPC Chairman, and Lt Col (Rtd) Nixon Ng Bujang, PCC Chairman.
Fr Paul reminded everyone that each of us is precious in God's eyes, blessed with unique gifts and called to serve. He encouraged all parishioners to actively participate in their BEC, where we journey together in faith, care for one another and build a stronger parish community.
Reflecting on the gathering's theme, PPC Chairman Danny Nesan quoted Matthew 20:26: "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant." He encouraged everyone to embrace servant leadership, reminding us that true greatness is found in serving others with humility and love.
PCC Chairman Lt Col (Rtd) Nixon Ng Bujang shared how the BEC has enriched his faith journey and encouraged parishioners to become actively involved in their respective BECs. Successful BECs are not built through programmes alone, but through genuine relationships. "The secret is bonding," he said. By intentionally spending time together beyond prayer meetings—through family gatherings, celebrations, community outreach and simply accompanying one another in everyday life—members gradually grow into a family united in Christ. Such relationships nurture trust, friendship and unity, making service both meaningful and sustainable.
The evening also featured an inspiring presentation by the Parish Integral Human Development (PIHD) Ministry Chairman Raymond Letchmanan, highlighting its outreach to the poor, vulnerable and marginalised. Parishioners were introduced to three key ministries under PIHD: the Monthly Provision Distribution, which provides essential groceries to families in need; the Education and Empowerment Ministry, which offers tuition, skills training and employment support to promote self-reliance; and the Franciscan Street Feeding Mission, which provides hot meals and basic necessities.
The Faith Treasure Hunt added excitement to the gathering, bringing BEC members together through fun activities that strengthened teamwork, friendship and faith.
We also thank our former BEC Leaders, Zone Leaders and BECCOT Core Team for their dedicated service. They were presented with Certificates of Appreciation by Fr. Paul Cheong in recognition of their valuable contributions to the BEC community.
Thank you to all BEC Leaders, Zone Leaders, volunteers and parishioners who made this gathering a joyful and meaningful success.
"Everyone Can Be Great Because Everyone Can Serve." Let us continue to serve one another with love, humility and faith.
Maria Santhana
