Blessed Jolenta of Poland

Born to King Béla IV of Hungary and sister of Saint Margaret of Hungary and Saint Kinga, Jolenta was raised in a deeply Christian royal family and formed in faith under the guidance of her elder sister, Queen St. Kunigunde of Poland.

She later married Duke Bolesław the Pious of Greater Poland, and together they used their wealth to serve the poor, the sick, widows, and orphans, while also building hospitals, convents, and churches.

After her husband's death and the marriage of two of her daughters, Jolenta entered the convent of the Poor Clares with her youngest daughter, embracing a life of poverty, prayer, and hidden service.

Within the monastery, she became known for her holiness and humble witness, inspiring others through both word and example. Deeply devoted to the Passion of Christ, she was granted mystical consolations, including a vision in which Jesus revealed her approaching death. Her reputation for sanctity spread far beyond the cloister, and many miracles were reported at her tomb.

Jolenta was beatified in 1827.
