August Art Session

28 August 2026

Health & Wellness Ministry – Art Community

We began our session with an Opening Prayer, followed by the Sharing of the Gospel of the Day – the Word of God. We then warmed up with some simple hand and finger exercises to prepare ourselves for the creative process.

Today’s Focus: Mandala Art & Mindful Living

Our main focus today was learning how to construct and create our own Mandala Art, with the intention of practising Habit 7 – Mindful Living through the art-making process.

We started with the basics of patterns, shapes and repetition, learning how simple elements can be repeated and arranged to create a harmonious design.

From there, we practised drawing circles and gradually developed our own mandala patterns. We also explored the Flower of Life Mandala, discovering how repetition, symmetry and interconnected patterns can help us slow down, become more attentive and remain present in the moment.

We ended the session with a small butterfly craft, enjoying a time of creativity, sharing and fellowship together.

Why Mandala Art?

Mandala art can be a meaningful way to practise mindfulness and intentional attention. The process of drawing repeated patterns and geometric forms invites us to slow down, focus on what we are doing and become more aware of our thoughts, feelings and surroundings.

Rather than rushing to complete a beautiful artwork, we learn to enjoy the process – one line, one circle and one pattern at a time.

Through this creative process, mandala art can encourage:

  • Mindfulness and centred attention

  • Focus and concentration

  • Relaxation and stress management

  • Self-expression and self-exploration

  • Creativity and imagination

  • Greater awareness of our inner thoughts and emotions

  • Connection, sharing and fellowship

  • Making Habits 6, 7 & 8 Alive

Today's session reminds us that our 8 Habits are not simply activities, but ways of living our faith.

Habit 6 – Christian Meditation

  • We learn to become still, quiet and attentive in God's presence.

Habit 7 – Mindful Living

  • We learn to slow down, become present and pay attention to the moment.

Habit 8 – Healthy Lifestyle

  • We care for the whole person – body, mind, emotions, relationships and spirit.

Through art, movement, mindfulness, fellowship and prayer, we can make these habits more tangible and alive in our everyday lives.

A Journey of the Butterfly

Our little butterfly craft was also a beautiful reminder that transformation takes time.

Just as a butterfly goes through a process of transformation, we too are continually being shaped and transformed – spiritually, emotionally and personally.

Art becomes more than creating something beautiful. It becomes a journey of discovery, awareness, expression and transformation.

"Be transformed by the renewal of your mind." – Romans 12:2

May our Art Community continue to be a space where we create, breathe, reflect, connect and grow together – in body, mind and spirit.
