Born to a poor family, Salvator joined the Franciscans at 21 as a lay brother and was known for his humility, simplicity, and ascetic life. While serving as cook, porter, and beggar for the friary, he became known for healing the sick with the Sign of the Cross. Crowds flocked to seek his prayers, and he urged them to examine their consciences, go to confession, and receive Holy Communion worthily.
Because of the overwhelming crowds, he was eventually moved to Cagliari in Sardinia, where he died peacefully praying, “Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.” He was canonized in 1938, and his feast day is celebrated on March 18.
Reflection: Am I letting God work through me to bring grace and healing to others?
