Saint Bernardine of Siena was one of the greatest Franciscan preachers of the 15th century and a key figure in renewing Christian life in Italy during a time of social and spiritual decline.

In an era marked by political unrest, moral corruption, and repeated outbreaks of plague, Bernardine became renowned for his powerful and compelling preaching. Traveling widely across Italian cities, he often preached in public squares, calling people back to repentance, prayer, and devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. His deep devotion to the Holy Name became so influential that he helped popularise the monogram “IHS,” which remains widely used in Christian art and liturgy today.

Today, Saint Bernardine is remembered as the patron saint of advertising, communications, and public relations for his remarkable ability to communicate the Gospel clearly and persuasively to large audiences.
