St. Lawrence of Brindisi was born on 22 July 1559, and died exactly 60 years later on his birthday in 1619. He entered the Capuchin Franciscan Order in Venice at the age of 16 and was ordained a priest at 23 after completing his studies in philosophy and theology at the University of Padua.
Gifted with an extraordinary intellect and a remarkable talent for languages, he mastered Latin, Greek, Hebrew, German, French, Spanish, and several other languages. This enabled him to study Sacred Scripture in its original texts. At the request of Pope Clement VIII, he also dedicated significant time to preaching to Jewish communities in Italy.
Renowned as a preacher, theologian, diplomat, and peacemaker, St. Lawrence defended the Catholic faith during the Counter-Reformation. His powerful preaching led many people to return to the faith. He also served as a papal diplomat, helping to resolve political conflicts and promote peace among Christian rulers.
