St. Leopold Mandić was a humble Capuchin priest, widely known as the patron saint of confessors. From a young age, he longed for Christian unity, especially the reconciliation of Catholics and Orthodox Christians.
He embraced a hidden vocation as a confessor, spending over 30 years in a small confessional where he heard confessions for 10–12 hours a day, offering God’s mercy with great patience and compassion. His confessional in Padua survived the bombing of the city in 1944, as he had foretold.
Suffering from cancer, he died on July 30, 1942, after a life marked by quiet holiness and devoted service.
Reflection: Do I see Confession as a burden or as a gift that restores my relationship with God?
