On 21 March 2026, Mission Beyond Borders (MBB) successfully organised and led a meaningful Orang Asli Lenten Outreach to Kampung Orang Asli Tekir, Labu joined by a dedicated team of 40 St Francis of Assisi Church (SFA), Cheras parishioners. This outreach reflected the true spirit of the Lenten season, walking in solidarity with the poor, the forgotten and the small.
The day began with a warm welcome at the Kg Tekir’s church, followed by an opening prayer that set the tone for a day of service, fellowship and unity. The outreach commenced with the church’s cleaning up gotong-royong, where volunteers worked hand in hand to clean, restore and care for the church. Despite the intense heat, the spirit of cooperation and determination never wavered. It was truly a collective effort and each contribution, big or small has played a meaningful role in the success of the gotong royong.
The programme then paused for lunch, offering a time of fellowship and connection. Parishioners and Orang Asli families sat together, not as strangers but as one community, sharing conversations, smiles and meaningful experiences. This simple yet powerful moment strengthened the bonds between all present.
Even with the blazing sun’s heat, the day remained vibrant and uplifting. The joyful laughter and cheerful spirit of the children during the games session, brought life and energy to the entire programme. These moments of play and interaction helped bridge communities, breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect.
The outreach also included the distribution of groceries donated by SFA parishioners to the Orang Asli families, a simple yet meaningful gesture that carried great significance. It offered not just material support, but also a message of care, dignity and solidarity. It served as a reminder that the mission of Lent calls us not only to prayer and sacrifice, but also to tangible acts of love and generosity.
Sincere and heartfelt thanks to all SFA donors and sponsors whose contributions made this event possible. Your generosity has brought hope, joy and tangible support to the community of Kg Tekir. Heartfelt appreciation is also extended to all volunteers and parishioners for their generosity, commitment and unwavering support throughout the programme.
This outreach beautifully reflected SFA’s mission as a missionary disciple church, reaching out in love, service and compassion to those on the margins. May this outreach continue to inspire all who participated to carry the spirit of compassion, service and love beyond this Lenten season.
