Youth Formation: Rooted and On Fire

What happens when we come together, grow in faith, and let our hearts catch fire?
One evening, different youth groups, one community, one faith, and one desire; to grow deeper in Christ. On 21st August 2026, young people from different youth groups came together for Rooted & On Fire, a youth formation centred on one simple call:
Be rooted in Christ, be transformed by the Holy Spirit, be on fire for His Kingdom.
The formation was made possible through the collaboration of representatives from SFA youth groups, coming together with one heart and one purpose, which is to create a space where young people could learn, reflect, connect, and encounter God. Guiding us through the formation was our speaker, Derek Chong, who challenged us to look deeper into what it means to live out our faith and serve the Lord with renewed zeal.
Being a young Catholic isn’t simply about attending programmes or knowing our faith. The activities during the formation included fellowship, icebreakers, praise & worship, a talk by the speaker, discussions among the youths, a question & answer panel, and prayer ministry. It is about allowing Christ to become the foundation of our lives. It is about letting the Holy Spirit transform us from within. And it is about taking that fire beyond the church walls and into our everyday lives.
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.” – Romans 12:11
A heartfelt thank you to Derek Chong, all the youth group representatives who came together to make this formation possible, and everyone who served behind the scenes. And to every young person who joined us, thank you for showing up with an open heart.
May what God planted in us that blessed evening continue to grow. May our roots go deeper, may our faith grow stronger, may our hearts burn brighter for Jesus. The formation may be over, but the journey continues. Let’s keep growing, keep serving, and keep the fire burning.
