Frances’ life beautifully combined both secular and religious vocations. Born into a noble family in Rome, she desired religious life from a young age but entered an arranged marriage. As a devoted wife and mother of three children, she faithfully lived her calling, serving both her family and the poor with love and dedication.
When a great plague struck Rome, Frances gave away her wealth and possessions to care for the sick, even begging door to door for aid. She eventually opened part of her home as a hospital.
Convinced that this life of service was urgently needed, Frances founded a society of women dedicated to God and the poor without taking formal vows. For seven years she continued living at home to care for her husband, and only after his death did she join the community fully, spending the rest of her life serving the poorest of the poor.
Her feast day is celebrated on 9 March, and she is remembered as a model of holiness faithfully lived through the ordinary responsibilities of family and daily life.
Reflection: How can I serve God through the ordinary tasks and relationships in my life?
