By Fr. Paul Cheong, OFM. Cap.

As we celebrate Good Friday and venerate the cross, let us remember that it takes two pieces of wood to make a cross.

The vertical stick represents Godโ€™s love for us. He loved the world so much that He sent His only Son to suffer and die for us. Jesus, the Lamb of God, willingly suffered for us to free us from the consequences of our own sins.

The horizontal stick represents Godโ€™s call for us to love one another by learning to love, forgive, and accept one another, and by humbly serving others. What we do to the least of our brothers and sisters, we do to Jesus.
